Dodd Army Airfield is an abandoned airfield located within the current city boundaries of San Antonio, Texas.

History

Dodd Field is one of the oldest pieces of real estate at Fort Sam Houston but has the smallest number of historic structures of any of the historic neighborhoods. Dodd Field includes the area bounded on the north by Rittiman Road, on the west by Harry Wurzbach Memorial Highway, on the south by Winans (formerly Dashiell) Road and on the east by the Fort Sam Houston Reservation boundary.

Aviation started at Dodd Field about 1916, and continued though the 1930s. During World War II, the facility serverd as a prisoner of war camp.

After the war, Dodd Army Airfield was converted into government housing for Army personnel stationed at Ft. Sam Houston. Most of the area eventually was absorbed into San Antonio.
