Micrelenchus caelatus bakeri is a subspecies of small sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Trochidae, the top shells.
Distribution
This subspecies is endemic to Fiordland in the South Island of New Zealand.
Habitat
This top snail is found at depths of between 7 and 15 m.
Shell description
The shell is larger, taller-spired, and of lighter build than the typical Micrelenchus caelatus subspecies, differing also in having a more pronounced peripheral angulation, and more numerous spiral cords, seven to nine on the penultimate, and these are flat-topped and smoothy, never granulose.
Coloration is variable; buff, with continuous or interrupted rose to purplish-brown spirals, and sometimes with radiate splashes of cream.
The shell height is up to 7 mm, and the width is up to 5.5 mm.
