Notoplax violacea is a species of chiton in the family Acanthochitonidae.
Distribution
This species is endemic to the North, South, and Chatham islands of New Zealand.
Habitat
This chiton is found on the underside of stones at low tide.
Description
This is a large, very striking chiton, with its orange-vermillon fleshy girdle, and dark purplish, granulose valves, with a violet series of wedge-shaped markings down the crest of the shell.
Length is up to 60 mm, and width up to 35 mm.
