Amjad Hussain,[1][2] (born 18 June 1964) popularly known as his pen name Hafiz Karnataki,[3][4][1][2] is an Indian poet and educator hailing from Shikaripur, Karnataka.[3][5][1][2] In 2020, he became the recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award for his patriotic biography book titled Fakhr-E-Watan in Urdu.[6][7][1][8]
Early life and education
Amjad Hussain Karnataki[1][2] was born in Shikaripur a town within Shimoga District, Karnataka.[3][5][2] He demonstrated a profound inclination towards literature from a young age.[3] "His academic journey commenced with the completion of his Hifz in Andhra Pradesh in 1979.[3][5] He further pursued education, achieving Afzalul Ulama from Madras University in 1989, Fazil O Adeeb from Punjab University in 1988, and a master's degree from Mysore University in 1993.[3][5] And in 1994, he added a B.Ed. degree from Annamalai University to his academic accomplishments.[3][5]
Awards and honours
Dr. Karnataki's contributions to literature have been celebrated through various awards and honours[8][3][1] Notable among these are the Children Model Literature Award from Kuvempu University in 2010,[3][8] the Al-Ameen Foundation Award from Al-Ameen Foundation, Bangalore in 2011, the Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Award from Madras University in 2012, and for his notable work Fakhr-E-Watan the Bal Sahitya Puraskar from Sahitya Akademi in 2020.[6][4][8][1][3]
Engaged services
Hussain's dedication to education and literary pursuits is evident through his engagement with multiple institutions.[8][3] He has held positions such as Secretary of Anjuman Atfal Karnataka,[5][8] Vice Chairman of Al-Ameen Educational Society,[8][9] and Chairman of Karnataka Urdu Children's Academy.[3][5][8].
