The Notso Amazon Softball League (NASL) is queer softball league, located in Toronto, Ontario. Originally founded in 1983, the league has operated our of Riverdale Park for forty years and is a volunteer organized not-for-profit recreational softball league for lesbians, bi-sexual women, queer women, queer-allied women, and trans folks. It offers a safe, inclusive environment that is open to all skill levels and abilities, and was one of the first organized leagues for queer women in the City of Toronto. The league plays regular season through late April/early May and runs through to the end of September.[1]
History
The league, founded in 1983, premiered its inaugural season on Sunday, May 27, 1984. Its opening day saw several exhibition games with all twelve of the league’s teams playing on the field and attracted a large showing from the lesbian and queer population to the field.[2] Notso Amazon received a grant of $1,800.00 from the Gay Community Appeal (now Community One Foundation) and was the first “visible, organized league for lesbians” in the City of Toronto.[3] In its first summer, the NASL had over 200 women register to play.
In 2023, the league celebrated their 40th season, with 17 teams registered to play.

League Events
Notso Amazon is a social league and hosts several events throughout the year. Their league-wide events include their Opening Party and Closing Party, and annual All-Star Game. Several smaller events are also held throughout the playing season.
2023 Blue Jays Boycott
In response to the then Blue Jays’ pitcher Anthony Bass’ social media controversies, NASL boycotted the Toronto Blue Jays’ annual Pride Night. Bass shared a video to Instagram, which endorsed the boycotts of Bud Light, Target, and other corporations, and called on Christians to support the boycott. The NASL shared that they would not attend a Blue Jays game during the 2023 season until the league saw strong action from the Toronto Blue Jays, recognizing that Bass' behaviour was unacceptable and that there was strong, meaningful efforts to make amends for the harm that was caused to the community.[4]
