That source, a guide book of the cemetery where he is buried would seem reliable, but all US government sources give it as 1843. I found sources at Hathi Trust from 1844 that refer to him as "the late" https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=osu.32435060850468&view=1up&seq=275&q1=hassler or refer to his death "last year" https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015050589723&view=1up&seq=535&q1=hassler Tag: Visual edit

Added reference to protactinium discovery. Named German discoverers of protactinium. Corrected the claim that Soddy discovered or thought he discovered a stable isotope of protactinium. In introductory paragraph, changed reference to definition as deuterium oxide from IUPAC Gold Book (which does NOT define heavy water that way) to PubChem page on deuterium oxide. Tag: Visual edit

The alloy is not the catalyst; the catalyst is almost all nickel left after the alloying material is dissolved out. Both of these are mentioned in the patent referenced.
  • 17:5817:58, 10 October 2018 diff hist 0 Murray RaneyI moved the "lucky" quotation two paragraphs earlier. Logically, it ought not to apply to the Al version of the catalyst since that was not the "first time" or even the first patent. In the source of the quotation, the formulation of the catalyst is not specified.
