Creation
This page was just created by me on 2/16/06. If you have any questions about this page, would like to suggest adding something else to it, or would like to help out with this page, please feel free to leave me a message. Thanks. --Jared 20:23, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Improvements
What about an article on cheating at olympics? Its a great idea to have this, but it needs to be more vissually appealing, more up-to-date and more newsy, and be a little bit better organized and connected to other pages.
Really great idea, though. Theonlyedge 23:19, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Changes to Olympics sports section
A few thoughts ...
- I think Summer should come before Winter.
- Why are we linking to generic pages? Shouldn't we be linking to Alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics instead of just Alpine skiing?

- You're right, that'd make more sense. I just completed it, but I'v having trouble with the columns. I want them all to be even, but its obviously not working. Does anyone know how to fix this? → J@red talk+ ubx 21:45, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Featured picture
Since the FP was removed on this page due to a fair use violation, could someone please find another FP to use? Preferably a recent one having to do with the summer Olympics, but anything will do. Thanks. → J@red talk+ ubx 21:27, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
Section problems...
I've noticed a few times that people have found problems with certain sections or pictures on this portal. I'm not trying to single anyone out, but I would greatly appreciate it if when someone removes a section or picture because of a violation, the find a new section or picture to replace it. Please try not to remove anything until you have found something in its place. Thanks for complying! → J@red 15:29, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Image removal.
The rings image was removed from this page. I can see that this should be done on templates, user pages, etc, but this is an encyclopedic page. Why should the rings not be allowed to be placed on this page? → JARED (t) 20:15, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Our fair use policies extend only to mainspace pages. It is well settled, though, that the illustrative purpose otherwise required for a use to be fair under (at least) American copyright law, is satisifed when images are used in portal space, inasmuch as portal pages are encyclopedic (toward which proposition see, e.g., the Template:Portal TfD). This is one a few instances in which our policy with respect to images is more restrictive than it need be, and it is one that I find most troubling (it is eminently clear that many editors, having happened on our main page, click immediately on one of the portal links [displayed prominently supra to the featured article and news headers], and it seems likely that an editor will be more likely to participate propitiously in the project if the portals he/she finds are of a quality orthogonal with that of our featured articles, for which quality good images are often needed; it can be said, of course, that if the images, for example, that we have can't support a given portal, the portal ought not to be created, but that question seems moot). There does not, though, seem to be a consensus at the moment for our revising policy, notwithstanding that there is no legitimate reason for us not to permit fair use in portal space (many, I think, fearing the continued use of fair use in userspace, seek to proscribe any non-mainspace use, but I find such categorical thinking to be deleterious on the whole). - I appreciate your response and I'm glad you were able to (and do currently) see it both ways. It doesn't solve my problem, but it gives a good explanation. Thank you. → JARED (t) 21:32, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
