Gayathrie Shankar is an Indian actress who appears in Tamil and Malayalam films. Her Tamil film debut was in 2012 with 18 Vayasu, and is best known for her role in Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012). She had her Malayalam film debut with Nna Thaan Case Kodu (2022).

Gayathrie was born and brought up in Bangalore.[1] she is half Malayali and half Tamil.

Career

The actress's first release was the psychological thriller 18 Vayasu (2012), but was recognized for her work in Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012) alongside Vijay Sethupathi. In 2013 she starred in two films, Ponmaalai Pozhudhu and Mathapoo. She was next seen in Rummy (2014), a 1980s college love story, opposite Inigo Prabhakaran.[2]

In 2017, Puriyatha Puthir directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi co-starring with Vijay Sethupathi..[1][3][4] In 2018, she has two releases, a dark comedy Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren and drama film Seethakaathi. She played in the series called Vella Raja. The multi-starrer Chithiram Pesuthadi 2, Super Deluxe and K- 13 was release in 2019.[5][6]

In 2022, she starred in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram, in which she played the wife of Amar, interpreted by Fahadh Faasil along Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathi. The film marks her second collaboration with Faasil after Super Deluxe and eighth collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi. Her long delayed movie, Maamanithan, directed by Seenu Ramasamy was released in the same year.[7] She make her debut in Malayalam cinema with the film Nna Thaan Case Kodu (2022).[8] Gayathrie Shankar played the female lead opposite Kunchacko Boban. The film is getting highly positive reviews.[9] In 2023, the action thriller Corona Papers directed by Priyadarshan was a remake of Tamil hit 8 Thottakkal.[10]
