Filip Mentel (born 2 February 1990) is a Slovak footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for FC Jelka.
Early life[edit]
He regarded England international David Beckham as his football idol.[1] He joined the youth academy of English Premier League side Manchester City FC at the age of fifteen.[2] He suffered a knee injury while playing for the club.[3]
Club career[edit]
He started his career with Scottish side Dundee United FC. In 2011, he was sent on loan to Scottish side Clyde FC. In 2013, he signed for Slovak side OFK Dunajská Lužná. In 2014, he signed for Slovak side ŠK Svätý Jur. After that, he returned to Slovak side OFK Dunajská Lužná. In 2016, he signed for Slovak side MŠK Senec. In 2022, he signed for Slovak side FC Jelka.
International career[edit]
He has represented Slovakia internationally at youth level. He played for the Slovakia national under-21 football team.[4]
Post-playing career[edit]
After retiring from professional football, he worked as a goalkeeper coach. After that, he worked as a football commentator.[5]
Personal life[edit]
He is the son of Slovak footballer Miroslav Mentel. He has been married to Katarina Mentel. He has a daughter and a son.[6]
