Baylee[edit]

I'd like to talk about this image. Currently, the information on the page indicates that Baylee Almon died later at the hospital. I heard an NPR interview with Chris Fields on the 15th anniversary of the bombing (ie, yesterday, from when I am writing this) and he said that he knew at the time the photo was taken that she had already died. By saying that she is not dead in the picture, and that she died later at the hospital, are we trying to soften a tragic event and make it more palatable for readers? The image is already horrific, I don't think changing it will make it any better or worse, I'd just like to see it be more factual. Further sources here ("carrying her body"), here ("recognized Baylee's lifeless body"). The latter source also quotes Sgt. John Avera, who handed the baby to Fields, as saying "I have a critical infant" but this can be expected to be incorrect as Avera was certainly caught up in the drama of the rescue. Fields, who carried the baby and is seen looking closely at her, reports she was already dead. -Etoile (talk) 14:46, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that before. It's also possible for Avera that Baylee was alive at the point he was holding her and then died in the arms of Fields. If Fields did state that, we would need a reliable source or two to correct the article. The two listed above aren't reliable (one's a wiki). --Happy editing!
