Translation[edit]

I'd say the translation of the last phrase is not too specific.

Whilst the suggested english translation could be one of the meanings, it is much wider in the original and so open to an interpretation.

Долой гнёт и обывательщину домашнего быта

  • "Say NO" -- possible english equivalent but "get rid of" is a bit more accurate to the original
  • "oppression" -- correct
  • "vacuity" -- not sure, but I would probably use something like "inanity" instead. Basically it refers to "common (unsophisticated) views"
  • "household work" -- nah, the original is wider, though you may say it refers only in a narrow sense, but again, the exact interpretation

is open to an interpretation. "domestic life" is the closest equivalent to the original.

So I'd reckon "Get rid of oppression and inanity in domestic life" is closer to the original Russian meaning, taking into account semantics and soviet period thinking.
