Which version to use

It makes absolutely no sense to use an out-of-date, aesthetically-poor photo for a character who has considerably evolved since their original appearance. Nearly every other article on a fictional character that I could find uses either the most recent version or at least a more recent version of the character in question. It's not at all educational and if anything, is misleading as it implies that Clementine literally hasn't changed since Season 1... which was 10+ years ago. It makes no sense to go by 'first appearance' photo when the purpose of the article is to be educational – that is, to use a cover photo for the subject that is widely recognizable or used. Does Batman still go by his 1939 appearance? What about Mickey Mouse? As Clementine has since greatly evolved since 2012, her appearance in Season 1 should no longer be considered 'standard'. You'll find that every other article on a fictional character uses a more up-to-date version of the subject. Even Lee's article does, as linked above, so this is very much inconsistent with the norms of Wikipedia.

For the sake of compromise, I've used a picture that at least is better taken ie: that doesn't portray Clementine as a wide-eyed scared little girl... which is the opposite of what her character has grown into. TheCelebrinator (talk) 20:31, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Batman: many appearances in one article; there are additional articles with appearances. The image in the infobox is from ten years ago. And, judging by the comment that was added when changing the image, it could be even older.

Mickey Mouse: the year is not given, but it also does not look particularly modern. Plus, again, many different looks in the article.

Batman's character has greatly evolved since 1939, his first appearance. Likewise, so has Mickey Mouse, and so has virtually every other fictional character, including Clementine. It's not about how old the image is as much as it is about how old it is relative to the character's existence.

A quick Google search of "Clementine twd" or any variation thereof yields many, many images of Clementine from Season 4... and very few from Season 1. Quite simply, more people recognize Clementine from her more recent appearances, which are now standard. Our policy is to use the most common, widely recognized image of the subject. Because our standard policy is to use the best image available for the infobox. It's literally the first thing any reader will see upon clicking on the article. It's also what we do with other articles/characters. TheCelebrinator (talk) 22:23, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
