Real?[edit]

is this picture real?

No this picture is not real. If you examine it, you can see that: -the shirt has no collar (b/c Obama's face has been photoshopped in and then blurred at the collar) -the skin tone varies from the face to the arms —Preceding unsigned comment added by WakDooD (talkcontribs) 12:48, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is real. There is no collar because t-shirts don't have collars. The skin tone varies because his face is more exposed to the sun than his arms are. This is called a tan.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.6.243.42 (talk) 04:28, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm curious as to the face. It looks as if the color changes slightly above the neck on the left bottom side. Where's the picture taken from? Kopf1988 (talk) 07:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is not real. Why would he look back while taking a shot? I'll tell you why. The person who photoshopped this picture couldn't find an Obama head that was looking straight forward and up.user:wjs23 19:00 EST 12 March 2008
You should take your concerns to the Department of Defense, as they are the source of the pic. (Incidentally, as described in the caption, he's not taking a shot, he's making a rebound. Why would he look at the hoop while making a rebound?) OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:19, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I actually took my concerns to the Department of Defence, and the site that displayed the picture has since been corrected, and the picture is no longer hosted there. You wiki-Elites need to realize that sources are not always correct. Someone inside the DoD realized that it was a fake, and took the photo down.Page that formally hosted the picture in question -wjs23
I think this image should be removed from Barack Obama, as I'm pretty sure it is fake. Why else would DoD remove it from their site? They're probably going to delete the information page as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.129.237.34 (talk) 17:28, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The image wasn't removed off DOD servers: http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/Assets/Still/2007/Navy/DN-SD-07-17803.JPEG It's a real photo, it just looks weird cause of the flash and quick shutter speed. Stop being idiots. 71.131.0.27 (talk) 22:58, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is definetly fake, and should not be shown on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.230.41.88 (talk) 13:14, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU MORONS —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.53.240.220 (talk) 13:48, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is so hard to believe that the guy can play basket ball? Hes looks young and healthy to me. If this were a picture of McCaine it would be a different story. Action should be taken against the users making the deliberate lie that the picture had been removed from the DOD website, if possible. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 22:32, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This image is obviously fake. Look at the chin and the right sleeve - He has no chin, which might make sense if his arm were in the way, but look at the sleeve - the bottom of his head is overlapping it. The alignment of the legs also says that this is likely a shot - not a rebound. --Magus05 (talk) 09:14, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would say this image is indeed real, if someone didn't care enough to find a picture of Obama's head facing straight and pointed-up, they also wouldn't care at all to see where the light is shining upon his head, my conclusion is look at the light aligned to his head and the shadow in the background. WOOOW[edit]

OBAMA CAN FLY!!!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.70.109.239 (talk) 18:19, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely agree, this picture is indisputable evidence that Obama can, in fact, fly. -Nomad

WTF? This can't be real[edit]

OBAMA IS LEVITATING!! Might not be a fake pic, but it sure looks like one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.149.141.104 (talk) 20:11, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, he's jumping. 24.129.235.74 (talk) 00:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Black Man with White Arms[edit]

Interesting. What will they think of next... Also, this looks shooped; I can tell because of the pixels and I've seen quite a few shoops in my time. 24.61.102.23 (talk) 23:09, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

anyways, it looks as if he was standing in the air^^ 87.177.247.62 (talk) 21:45, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Come on...[edit]

This image is clearly photoshopped, why hasn't it been removed from the article yet? Wikipedia just too cowardly to admit a mistake? 24.129.235.74 (talk) 00:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I checked out this image in Photoshop. It has NO metadata. No camera data at all, you would think it would have that, wouldn't you? Of course, Photoshop leaves its own metadata, but that can be removed with third party software, which, in turn, that software will remove all the metadata. Whoever made this was smart, but not smart enough. I'm taking matters into my own hands (not metaphorically) and removing this from the article! 24.129.235.74 (talk) 00:49, 10 November 2008 (UTC) Unless somebody can get a cite where this is from and who took it.[reply]
I was looking at the cite on that youtube video... Notice obama's pants in this picture, there is a stripe going down the side. Watching that video in high quality I can not really see the stripe. Nor the red/orange mesh fence (probably a different angle maybe?), nor can you see the weird textured roof or wall anywhere in the video. Travis (talk) 00:58, 10 November 2008 (UTC) Besides.. since when has Youtube ever been a valid source of information?[reply]

Not a photoshop[edit]

Apparently, some people can't read the image descriptions properly. The image is genuine. The original is hosted on a government website. A hi-res version can be found at http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/Assets/Still/2007/Navy/DN-SD-07-17803.JPEG . Note the .mil domain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.109.133.45 (talk) 16:22, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enough[edit]

It's time to end this once and for all.

Here is a screenshot of the YouTube clip, and a detail of Obama with the gamma adjusted from 1.00 to 2.00. Note the white stripes on his pant legs. Note the blue heels on his shoes. Note the gray shirt. Note the varied skin tone. All as in the original.

Note the guy with the strap around his right calf in the original. And there he is again, below and slightly left of the hoop in the screenshot.

Note the guy with the red sleeveless shirt and white-striped shorts in the original. And there he is again, below and slightly right of the hoop in the screenshot.

Note the floor in the original: red with a yellow border. And sure enough, it's the same in the screenshot.

Q.E.D.

Missing the Point[edit]

Whether it is actually real or not (obviously the evidence seems to verify its authenticity), the point is that it looks photo-shopped. There are plenty of other images of Obama playing basketball. Why choose one that generates so much controversy and clearly distracts one from the article?
