Mistaken Identity
[edit]Collegues, it`s not Feodor Chaliapin (bas), but Ivan Jadan (tenor) sings The Song of the Volga Boatmen. See: Ivan Zhadan (Jadan) - The Song of the Volga Boatmen.[dead link ] – ru:User:Olgvasil Olgvasil (talk) 09:54, 10 December 2014 (UTC). PS. Here is Chaliapin. --Olgvasil
- I doubt it was Jadan. According to the Ukranian page his vital dates are (22 вересня 1902 — 15 лютого 1995). He would have been unborn or under 1 year old at the time of the 1902 recording. I've also marked the YouTube link as dead, it just comes up with the message "Video unavailable" and nothing more. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 08:14, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
I've listened, and I say this is Chaliapin for sure. How could it be a tenor? Nonsense ChalSeismo (talk) 06:43, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Moreover, this could not be a 1902 recording, given the quality of the sound. ChalSeismo (talk) 14:23, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
if you consider marston records a source, this was recorded in 1927. 2001:14BB:699:2362:D1C:FBB3:8409:54B (talk) 16:49, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
Time of recording
[edit]I came to say what ChalSeismo said last year, I severely doubt this was recorded in 1902. Do we we have a source for when it was recorded? --Antondimak (talk) 20:41, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- basically what i was trying to say above (probably should've used the reply button), i have the box set of chaliapin's complete recordings where it says that this take was recorded in 1927. i also tried to start a discussion on wikimedia commons, but i guess nobody really reads these pages 2001:14BB:699:2362:546A:B926:C218:4ECD (talk) 13:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
I refuse to believe this was recorded in 1902.
[edit]Audio recording back in 1926, 24 years after this was presumably "recorded" was terrible. Just listen to the first recorded instance of "Kumbaya." (Kumbaya) That sound is terrible! Can we maybe find a more relibable source to find when it was recorded? -положение Положение (talk) 06:11, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
