Summary

Description
English: The Wat Mahathat or "Monastery of the Stupa" temple at Luang Prabang, Laos, was first founded in 1548 by king Say Setthathirath who ruled from Chiang Mai. It was rebuilt between 1907 and 1910 when the original temple structure collapsed during a typhoon in April 1900 during evening prayers which caused many deaths among local Buddhist worshippers. The temple was restored periodically from 1963 and 1991 onwards with the addition of an ornamented facade with decorated rosette columns.
