Summary

Description

Victoria Park in Stafford Town Centre. It is right outside Stafford Station.

The River Sow runs through the park. The park was opened in 1908. It was created by T Fobbs & Co of Wolverhampton.


Near Victoria Road in the park is the Staffordshire County War Memorial. It is Grade II listed and dates from 1923. Sculpted by William Robert Colton, completed by L. S. Merrifield.

There is a bronze horse with a Winged Victory on top.

   War memorial on square terrace with walls, and flanking walls
   and gates. c1920. Ashlar and bronze. Tall memorial supporting
   bronze figures. Plinth has bronze plaque with lettering above
   inscription cut in stone, bronze plaque commemorating 2nd
   World War to right return; imbricated torus to base of
   memorial, which has roundels with cap badges to all faces and
   bronze Stafford knot over inscription; top figures of winged
   female and horse on rock. Terrace has low walls continued to
   sides, with canted sections flanking enriched wrought-iron
   paired gates, the canted sections inscribed with names of
   battles of the 1st World War. An impressive grouping at west
   end of Victoria Park.
