Summary

Description
English: Tinsley Marshalling Yard, Sheffield, 1981
Opened in 1965 to rationalise all aspects of the rail services in the Sheffield area, this large yard was used to separate railway wagons and reform trains - a concept that was already suffering from lorry competition well before 1965. The yard closed in stages from 1985 with the run-down of wagon-load rail freight. Part of the former yard was used for the construction of the Sheffield International Rail Freight Terminal (SIRFT) in the mid 2000s.
