Summary

Description
English: The tomb of Eliugh Yale - north side. The tomb of Eliugh Yale is at the west end of St Giles' church near the tower. In 1701 Yale provided some funding for the foundation of the what is today Yale College in U.S.A. The inscription on the north side reads:

Born in America, in Europe Bred In Africa travell'd, in Asia wed Where long he liv'd and thriv'd: in London dead. Much good, some ill, he did; so hope all's even, And that his soul thro' mercy's gone to Heaven. You that survive and read this tale, take care, For the most certain exit to prepare: Where blest in peace, the actions of the just Smell sweet, and blossom in the silent dust.

Interestingly the Francis Frith photo of 1895 shows a similar but different tomb at this location. It had railings (but they would have been removed for salvage in WWII), but also the moulding along the base was different and in 1895 the top was flat whereas today it is domed. http://www.frithphotos.com/wrexham/photos/the-tomb-of-eliugh-yale-1895_36279/
