Among special features it may be noted that theblast nozzle has an annular discharge, the nozzle—itself i\in. in diameter—having within it a double conical plug 2fin. in diameter at the largest part, which can be adjusted atthe desired height by means of the spindle which carries it. Similar engines to the one described, only smaller, havebeen at work for some time on the Antofagasta Railroad,South America, and Mr. Woods, the Engineer of the rail-road and President of the Institution of Civil Engineers,reports very favorably as to their working.
