English: Approximate route of Olaf Swenson's trek from North Cape (Mys Schmidta) on the Arctic Ocean to Irkutsk. The portion from North Cape to just beyond Srednikolymsk was by dog sled. The route is based on Swenson's description, and (west of Srednikolymsk) on plausible choices of trail routes chosen from those shown on two old maps of Russia: Northern Yakutsk map 1882 and Siberia map 1908. The Route from Zashiversk to Abyy is unknown; one marked trail ran closer to the Indigerka River than is marked here. Other trails potentially linking Yakutsk and Irkutsk appear to have existed but the route along the Lena seems most straightforward.
