Summary
| Description | The south portal of the MAX Red Line's I-205 tunnel, with a southbound (Beaverton-bound) train. The tunnel takes the MAX tracks from the middle of the freeway (at the opposite end of the tunnel) to the east side of the freeway. It was built in the late 1970s for future use as part of a transitway (predicted at the time to be a busway) but stood unused for more than 20 years until outfitted in 2000 for use by the MAX light rail system's Red Line. Its existence significantly reduced the cost of building the light rail line. The train seen here was composed of two Siemens SD660 cars (Type 2 car 236 and Type 3 car 304), the most common type of MAX car (79 cars in a total fleet of 145 MAX cars as of 2018). Rocky Butte is visible in the background. |
