Description
English: A watercolor sketch of 8 Native Americans of various tribes and 1 boy of African descent in 1735. The Native American on the far right with the pipe is Atakapa. The French depended on Native Americans and imported Africans for labour. Made by the French artist Alexander de Batz (1685-1759). The caption in the top left is in French "Desseins de Sauvages de Plusieurs Nations, Nlle Orléans 1735." (Sketches of Savages of Several Nations, New Orleans 1735).
Français : Une aquarelle représentant 8 Amérindiens de diverses tribus et 1 garçon d'origine africaine en 1735. L'Amérindien à l'extrême droite avec la pipe est Atakapa.
