Description
English: Sheffield: Holiday Inn and viaduct artwork The Holiday Inn used to be the Royal Victoria Hotel at the time of the Victoria Station alongside. A nearby plaque reads: "The Sheffield Hotel Company" was set up in 1856 to establish a hotel adjacent to the station. Principal subscribers were the Great Northern and Midland, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway Companies and the Duke of Norfolk. The hotel was completed in 1862 at a cost of £25,000 including furnishings, and described as "one of the finest and most complete in the kingdom." The Royal Victoria has been honoured throughout its long history by the patronage of many royal guests and famous persons and proudly played an important role in serving Sheffield and its visitors."
