Description
English: This work was originally located on the eastern facade of Orsanmichele in a niche commissioned by the Florentine political group Parte Guelpha and carved by Donatello. But after a decline in the popularity of the Parte Guelpha, the niche was sold to the Merchants' Guild and the sculpture of Saint Louis was moved to Santa Croce. The niche was later filled with a sculpture of the "Doubting of Thomas" by Verrocchio. A copy of Donatello's niche was later carved for the St. Louis in the Santa Croce museum.
