Description
English: Reading locomotive 1251 at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, east of Strasburg, PA. "The last standard-gauge steam locomotive on daily operation on a class one railroad in the US" built by Philadelphia & Reading Co. in September 1918, retired on Feb. 9, 1963. Wheel arrangement 0-6-0T, class B4a, only 1 engine of class built. weight 120,000 lbs, length 28 ft. 3 inches, driving wheel diameter 50 inches, tractive effort 24,500 lbs. Fuel capacity coal 2 tons, Water 1,300 gal. Boiler pressure 150 psi. Saddle tank switcher, built from parts of a I-8 2-8-0 Consolidation. From Reading shops (1845-1948) which built over 830 steam locomotives. No. 1251 is the only one that survives
