Summary

Description
English: Old General Post Office Building, Victoria St This Victoria Street building, designed by Henry Tanner, was specially constructed as a general post office between 1894 and 1899. The building, originally resembled a French chateau with gables, chimneys and pavilion roofs but unfortunately, the upper floors were damaged in the Second World War, and the interior was gutted after the Post Office moved in the 1970's. The surviving shell has been converted into the new Met Centre, full of designer shops, the modern front entrance being in Whitechapel.
