English: Control Point, Nevada Test Site. The Department of Energy, Nevada Operations Office Test Controller and members of the Test Advisory Panel (at table) prepare to conduct Schellbourne, an underground nuclear test, on May 13, 1988, in Area 3 of the NTS.The panel members consist of experts in nuclear physics, nuclear medicine, radiation, meteorology and the environment. Weather conditions were closely observed, and no test was permitted if the safety of people, both on and off the NTS, was questioned. The Test Controller has the authority to stop the test at any time up to a few seconds before detonation. |
