Summary

Description
English: Mortuary Chapel, Western Cemetery This architectural extravaganza was built for Patrick Allan Fraser as a mausoleum for his family, and later gifted to the town council of Arbroath. It is recognised as one of the finest examples of the stonemason's craft. Most sources say that it was designed by Fraser and built in 1884 by stonemason John Peters. Others claim that Fraser commissioned the work, and that Peters built it without plans or drawings, and that it was begun in 1875 and that James, not John, Peters spent 25 years creating the carvings.
