English: This image shows the left boot from a pair of Lange Swinger ski boots, similar to the Comp and Pro models but built with a more forgiving forward flex. This is from the 2nd generation lineup, circa 1968. They differed from the 1st generation only in details, notably the prominent "L" striping along the sides.

The design was essentially nothing more than a contemporary leather boot with the leather replaced by a thermosetting plastic. There was no attempt to design something completely new. However, when the first examples were built, it was found that the forward flex of the boot was far too stiff. This led to the boot being re-designed into two parts, the foot section and the cuff around the leg. These are joined by a pivot, the clearly visible silver disk near the ankle.

Modern "front-entry" ski boots differ little from this example. Materials have improved, notably in the liners, the leg cuff evolved upward to a point just below the calf muscles, and most examples have only two buckles on the foot section instead of three.
