Le "Roi lépreux" (ici de dos) provient d'Angkor Thom, il date du XIIème siècle et est sculpté dans du grès gris beige. Il est placé dans la cour intérieure du musée où il est permis de photographier. "La célébrité de cette oeuvre est liée au mystère qu'elle inspire" (catalogue p180) Le corps est nu ce qui est inhabituel dans la statuaire khmer et son identification reste incertaine. Il pourrait s'agir de la figure de Yama, le dieu de la mort et le juge suprême. La monture de Yama est un buffle. Une tradition locale a assimilé cette statue au fondateur d'Angkor Vat : Bua-Sivisithiwong qui selon la légende était lépreux. Fondé par Georges GROSLIER , le musée a été inauguré le jour de l'an khmer 1920 sous le nom de Musée Albert Sarraut, par le roi Sisowat et le Résident Supérieur Baudoin, il est dédié à l'art khmer.
