Fair use rationale[edit]

Fair use summary for use of the image in the article on Housemaster (play)

The use of this image in the article Housemaster (play) qualifies under the "fair use" doctrine because:

  • It is a low resolution copy of a publicity photograph for the show.
  • Although most (95%) of the image is used, it is too small to compete with the copyright owner's use of the image;
  • Its use will not deprive the copyright owner of income or the ability to use and exploit the image;
  • It is used for the purpose of identifying and illustrating the characteristic 1930s production style of the play. This image is the sole visual illustration of that production style in the article; and
  • It cannot be replaced by an equivalent free image; the production was 77 years ago; all people shown are dead.
