Description
English: H.M. Steam Vessel Ardent... Arrivng at Trieste from Alexandria with the Indian Despatches Septr 28th 1846

A coloured print which is inscribed: "H.M. Steam Vessel, 'Ardent', of 200 Horse Power, and 800 Tons Burthern, Commanded by Captain Spong, R.N. / Arriving at Trieste from Alexandria with the Indian Despatches, Septr 28th 1846. The distance being about 1240 miles was accomplished in 5 days and 10 hours / without the use of Sails."

'Ardent' spent much of her career on the West Coast of Africa engaged in anti-slavery operations.
