Description

Set design for the 1776 première of the French version of Christoph Willibald Gluck's Alceste. Note Hercules in the left foreground, wearing the lionskin that traditionally marks him; He did not appear in the original Italian libretto, and only appears in Act III of the revised. 420 x 510 mm (artwork) ; 470 x 640 mm (full)
