Purpose of use

This screenshot demonstrates the decrepit state of the Hotel Earle, a major point of attention for critics and theorists. The Coens designed the Earle to represent the troubled mind states of the principal characters, Charlie and Barton. The putrefaction demonstrated by the drooping wallpaper mimics the pus dripping from Charlie's infected ear, for example. The heat of the infernal setting also contributes to the poor adhesive ability of the wallpaper.
