Deutsch: Vorderseite: mIXAHL S Θ-ECLA [Michael kai Thecla]. Drapierte Büste des Michael III. mit Krone (l.) mit Globus (sphaira) mit Kreuz in der l. Hand und die der Thecla (r.) mit Krone und Stola (loros) und einem Patriarchenkreuz in der r. Hand in der Vorderansicht.

Rückseite: ΘEOdO-RA DESPVnA [Theodora Despoina]. Büste der Theodora mit Stola (loros) und Krone in der Vorderansicht. In ihrer l. Hand hält sie einen Globus (sphaira) mit Kreuz, in der l. ein Kreuzzepter. Im l. F. ein Kreuz.

Kommentar: Geboren 840 wurde Michael bereits im selben Jahr zum Mitherrscher ernannt und war ab dem 20. Januar 842 offiziell Kaiser des byzantinischen Reiches. Zunächst stand Michael ganz unter dem Einfluß seiner Mutter Theodora, nach deren Ausschaltung im Jahre 856 und 858 erfolgten Verbannung in ein Kloster unter dem des jeweiligen Mitregenten Bardas bzw. Basilius. Letztgenannter ließ zunächst Bardas ermorden und am 23./24. September 867 schließlich Michael III. Thecla war eine der Schwestern des Michael III.
