This picture of Thomas Wale was scanned in from an original copy of the 1883 book "My grandfather's pocket book". The original of the picture is held in the National Portrait Gallery of England. Given that this image was created prior to the publication of the book in 1883 I believe that it is now in the public demain.

Thomas Wale (1701-1796) was a Cambridgeshire gentleman who is the subject of the book mentioned above.
