The Rx class locomotives were the most powerful broad-gauge locomotives on the SAR until a series of large locomotives essentially of US Railroad Administration design were introduced by Commissioner W.A. Webb in 1926. The 600 classPacific-type locomotives were large-wheeled to haul passenger trains, including The Overland, from Tailem Bend to the Victorian border at express speeds.
