Description
English: Service personnel and civilians queue for admission to the Empire and Ritz cinemas in London's Leicester Square, 1941.
A busy scene in London's Leicester Square as civilians and service personnel queue for admission to the Empire and Ritz cinemas. The queue snakes past a large Dolcis shoe shop and a small milk bar before reaching the cinemas. The Empire is showing 'The Philadelphia Story', starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart, whilst the Ritz appears to be showing 'Gone with the Wind'. Also visible in the distance are Queen's Brasserie, the Monseigneur News Theatre, (offering seats at 7d and 1/ 2d), the NSPCC headquarters, and the Warner cinema. Several cars can also be seen.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
