After a memorial ceremony aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration survey ship NOAAS Thomas Jefferson (S 222) for the 20 men lost when the United States Coast Survey ship Robert J. Walker sank on 21 June 1860 – the first official memorial ceremony ever held for them – Ensign Eileen Pye, NOAA Corps, lays a wreath from Thomas Jefferson over the waters where Robert J. Walker sank in the Atlantic Ocean off New Jersey.
