English: Potter’s Mill is located at South St and 2nd St. at the south edge of Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa. Originally named Jasper Mills, it was one of the earliest mills in the county. Construction began in 1843, just 10 years after Eastern Iowa was opened to settlers after the Black Hawk War, by Capt. Elbridge Gerry Potter, the wealthiest man in the county at that time. The mill began to manufacture its trademark Jasper XXX brand flour in by 1845. This was sold as far away as New York, and was a staple of the Union army during the Civil War.
