Title
Post medieval silver gild dress hook.
Description
English: A post medieval silver gilt dress fitting cast in low relief in the form of a bird, possibly an eagle, with outstretched wings, head and body angled to the right, standing on the ground. Details of the feathers of the tail, lines indicating the feathers of the wings, the eye, beak and three toes on each foot can be seen. The reverse is flat, with the stub of a separate soldered silver fitting in the centre, probably a hook. Width 13mm. Height 12mm. Thickness 2.5mm. Weight 1.2g.

Similar to an example from Leicestershire (PAS database number LEIC-4405A7, Treasure Annual Report 2005/6, 357, no.512). Perhaps a dress or cap hook. Late 15th - 16th century.
