Title
Post medieval cap hook
Description
English: Report on post-medieval dress fitting from `Saxton' N. Yorkshire 2008 T726

"Silver dress fitting comprising a flower head, cast. On the back one simple loop, no signs of a bar fitting.

Probably 16th Century. The simple loop suggests this may have been a cap hook rather than a dress hook, of the kind worn on men's caps around 1480-1580 in England. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Dr Dora Thornton, Curator of Renaissance Collections"
