Five hundred graduates from Kennesaw State University received a salute for a “job well done” from Maj. Gen. Maria Britt on Dec. 14, 2010. Kennesaw State University President Dr. Daniel S. Papp invited Britt to speak to the undergraduate students as well as to the graduate students from the Bagwell College of Education and the WellStar College of Health and Human Services.
Britt was well suited to talk to the graduating Owls and their families because her oldest daughter graduated from the Bagwell College of Education just two years ago.
She spoke to the graduates from the perspective of a life of public service. General Britt began her military career in 1983 when she graduated from West Point and has served the United States both in active duty and the National Guard. She challenged the students to use their education, “for the good of others. Make the world better for more than just yourself; make it better for all Americans and the world community.”
Four days later, on Dec. 18, Britt also delivered the keynote speech at Southern Polytechnic State University's 99th commencement ceremony.
