Title
Committee of Public Safety. An II.
Description
In a large room with columns men conversing in small groups others attend. They are dressed in coats shaped redingottes, wearing pants with boots and sometimes wearing tricorn hats with tricolor. The room is divided by a red white blue ribbon tied in the center. It is occupied by an assembly seat four rows facing each other with a wide table that serves as an office.
In reality, it is not the Committee of Public Safety: the legend of the watercolor is fanciful, this work is the copy of an engraving which represents the general assembly of the Batavian Republic in The Hague, on August 28 1795.”
