Description
English: The former Chesapeke & Potomac Telephone Company Warehouse and Repair Facility located at 1111 North Capitol Street, NE in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The industrial Art Deco building was constructed in 1927 and until recently, served as a storage facility and workshop for the Smithsonian Institution. In 2007, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In March of 2008, National Public Radio purchased the site with plans to relocate their headquarters by 2012 (currently located at Mount Vernon Square). Hickok Cole Architects and Boston Properties, Inc. were chosen to design and develop the new 360,000 sq ft. facility.
