This panoramic map from LC Panoramic maps (2nd ed.), page 2, illustrates a bird's-eye view of Anniston, Alabama in 1888, sixteen years after the area was first settled in April 1872. Drawn c1888 by Eli Sheldon Glover (1844-1920) of Battle Creek, Michigan and published in Chicago by Shober & Carqueville Litho. Co., the southwest-looking perspective map is indexed for points of interest. The map was commissioned by the Anniston City Land Company as a way to attract businesses, particularly manufacturing enterprises, and residential lot purchasers to the area. On and around August 17, 2008, this map was featured by the U.S. Library of Congress on its Panoramic Maps of Cities in the United States and Canada website. NOTES: The map is not drawn to scale.
