Celle qui peint ~= The Painter
[edit]This is really difficult to translate. The translation above loses the femininity of the artist, which I suppose in today's world isn't entirely bad, if it means more respect for the artist.
However, there's something else lost, and it's really hard for me to put a finger on it. "She who paints", or even "The One who Paints", means something subtly different from "The Painter". I'm writing this not to support decisions I've made in translation, but to open the question: How do you think it should work?
I have never met the artist (a gross oversight on my part having seen the work) but if anybody knows which translations she prefers that would be nice. Mark J (talk) 23:02, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
