Top Video Sales (initially called the Videocassette Top 40) was a home video chart published by Billboard magazine starting in 1979.[1] The chart documented the best-selling videocassette titles on a weekly basis in the United States.
Preface[edit]
The following year-by-year, week-by-week listings are based on statistics accrued by Billboard after the inception of its Top Video Sales popularity chart in November 1979. The charts were issued biweekly until June 1981.
All data is pooled from retail purchases of VHS and Betamax cassettes within the United States.
