Sheikh Hamad bin Majed Alowaishiq (الشيخ حمد بن ماجد العويشق) is a businessman, philanthropist, lawyer, and art collector.

Early life & education[edit]

Hamad was born on December 31. He spent his formative years between Oxford, United Kingdom, San Antonio, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Nanjing & Shanghai, China. He had attended 10 different schools across the world by the time he concluded his secondary education.

Next he pursued his undergraduate degree in law at King Saud University, the oldest university in Saudi Arabia which includes Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of State Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, amongst other as alumni. He has written a number of research papers within law, of which have been presented at international conferences.

He is a member of the Alowaishiq family, part of the Hashemite dynasty, and is considered to be a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The family (also spelt Aluwaishiq/Aluwaisheg) is notable for its diplomats, senior government officials, and academics. The Hashemites are the oldest-ruling dynasty in the Muslim world, and are the second-oldest-ruling dynasty in the world, after the Imperial House of Japan.

Hamad is the nephew of:

  • Dr. Abdullah Alowaishiq, an Arabic academic, writer, and researcher
  • Dr. Abdelaziz Aluwaisheg, Assistant Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council
  • Dr. Sulaiman Aluwaishiq, Legal Advisor to the Council of Ministers
  • Dr. Nasser Aluwaishiq, an education expert who was instrumental in introducing STEM into Saudi Arabia

They are also extended relatives of Turki II bin Abdulaziz, the full brother of King Salman of Saudi Arabia.

Philanthropy[edit]

Hamad established Saudi Youth Society (SYS) on January 31, 2020. Saudi Youth Society is a leading non-profit organization focused on youth empowerment and cultural representation. The organization supports youth and focuses on three main pillars: Creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

Since its inception, Saudi Youth Society has executed numerous projects that have touched the lives of thousands. SYS organizes workshops and exhibitions, public speaking competitions, tree plantings and cleanups, in addition to providing work opportunities. The organization has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the King Khalid Foundation, Ministry of Sport, Raffles Design Institute, the National Center for Vegetation Cover, amongst other notable entities. The organization is headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hamad serves as the Founder & Chairman, chairing the board which includes designer & entrepreneur Princess Nourah Alfaisal as Vice Chairman, Dr. Nasser Aluwaishiq, sustainability advocate Prince Dr. Mishari Al-Saud, international artist and curator Lulwah Al-Homoud, and Prince Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Telecom Company (STC).

Advisors include Princess Lamia bint Majed Al-Saud, Secretary-General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, and Princess Nouf bint Muhammad Al-Saud, CEO of the King Khalid Foundation.

On October 22, 2022, Hamad was awarded by the Saudi Ministry of Sport and Emirati Ministry of Youth*** in recognition of his philanthropic, cultural, and social development efforts.

Personal live[edit]

Hamad lives between Riyadh and France. He is known to be a patron of the arts and of his passion for cultural diversity. He is a globetrotter, an equestrian, and practices several sports including golf.
