Ryder is a startup specializing in the manufacturing and promotion of physical open source hardware wallets designed to secure cryptocurrencies.

Overview[edit]

Ryder hardware stores and manages account keys offline with EAL6+ secure element, backs up and recovers digital assets with a Tapsafe recovery system powered by the custom-weighted Shamir secret sharing, signs transactions, sends, receives, and stores digital assets, and securely sends and receives payments. Ryder develops a cryptocurrency hardware wallet and software application used to interact with different blockchains including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, Stacks, and more. It allows users to interact with decentralized applications and websites. Ryder application allows users to sell and buy digital assets. It also bridges the digital world with the physical world.

History[edit]

2020 - 2021: Ryder debut[edit]

Created in 2020 as a Blockstack (now Stacks) hardware identity keychain, Ryder emerged from the efforts of Louise Ivan and Marvin Janssen. The initial focus was addressing vulnerabilities in user Blockstack app private keys accessible via third-party JavaScript code. Marvin then developed Ryder's first prototype. The primary goal was to enhance security by creating a physical hardware wallet to safeguard user private keys offline.

Through ongoing research and development, Ryder evolved into a wearable smart hardware device capable of data transfer through NFC, Bluetooth, or a USB cable connection. This device displays key information on its screen and initiates key exchanges upon explicit owner approval.

The first functional wearable hardware identity wallet, resembling a wristwatch akin to an Apple watch, was introduced in July 2020. In 2021, Ryder's concept secured a grant proposal from the Stacks Foundation, enabling further research and development.

2022 - 2023: R&D[edit]

During 2022, continued research and development efforts have resulted in the evolution of Ryder's product line, culminating in the creation of the compact and refined Ryder One hardware.

2023: Seed Round[edit]

On October 19, 2023, Ryder raised $1.2 million from the blockchain industry investors.[1][2] This accomplishment coincided with the debut of Ryder's hardware pre-order campaign in November 2023, inviting support from early backers.

In December 2023, Ryder concluded a pre-order campaign, raising over $110,000 from early backers of Ryder One.

[edit]

Ryder One[edit]

Ryder One is the hardware wallet that combines security, simple setup and easy recovery. It is an IP water and dust-proof compact device, measuring 41 x 55 x 14.5 mm and weighing 45g, crafted with an aluminum, polycarbonate, and tempered glass. Ryder One is integrated with the EAL6+ certification Infineon SLE78 secure element chip. Portless, Ryder One relies on encrypted Near Field Communication connectivity to interface with modern smartphones. The device features a built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery that supports Qi wireless charging. Its user interface is facilitated by an AMOLED Touch Display screen, sized at 1.7 inches with a resolution of 320x360 pixels. The display exhibits colors at 301 PPI, complemented by a 3-axis accelerator for the raise-to-wake functionality.

Ryder Tags[edit]

Ryder Recovery Tags are RFID tags that are battery-free, with encrypted Near Field Communication connectivity, ultra-resistant to dust and water, and can retain data for over 25 years. These tags are designed to back up and recover digital assets, enabled by the TapSafe recovery feature.

Ryder Application[edit]

Ryder Application is an open-source software that allows users to exchange digital assets and interact with decentralized applications and websites.
